Module 2: The Formula

The Iteration Loop

2 min read
The secret pros know: your first prompt is just the start. The magic happens in the back-and-forth.

Most people give up after one response. If it's not perfect, they think "AI sucks" and move on. But the first response is almost never the final answer—it's a starting point.

The Simple Loop

Prompt
Response
Feedback
Refine

Think of it like working with a human collaborator. You wouldn't expect perfect work on the first draft. You'd give feedback and iterate together.

What Good Feedback Looks Like

You (first prompt)
Write a LinkedIn post about our new product launch.
AI
[Writes a generic, corporate-sounding post]
You (feedback)
This is too formal. Make it sound more like a real person—maybe start with a story or personal observation. And cut it in half.
AI
[Writes a much more engaging, human post]
You (final tweak)
Love it. Just make the ending more of a question to drive engagement.

Three turns got you from "generic corporate fluff" to "exactly what I wanted." That's how pros use AI.

Useful Feedback Phrases

Keep these in your back pocket when iterating:

"More casual / formal"
"Cut this in half"
"Add an example for..."
"Remove the part about..."
"Make it sound like..."
"Focus more on..."
"What if we tried..."
"Keep X but change Y"

When to Start Over vs. Iterate

Iterate when: The direction is right but the details are off. The AI understood you but needs refinement.

Start fresh when: The AI completely missed the point. It would take more effort to fix than to explain again from scratch.

Try It Now

Take any AI response you've gotten recently and practice giving feedback:

1. Identify what's working and what isn't
2. Give specific direction: "Make X more like Y"
3. Iterate 2-3 times until it's right

Key Takeaway
Don't expect perfection on turn one. Iterate with specific feedback to get exactly what you need.
